FRISCO, Texas – The Aggie men’s golf team came away from the Lone Star Conference end of the year award banquet with many honors as Noah Hasse was named Freshman of the Year and Dario Gabriel, Daniel Nielsen, and Devin Tovey were all named All-LSC.
Gabriel and Nielsen both received first team All-LSC honors while Tovey was named to the second team.
Gabriel, who was also named LSC Academic Player of the Year, finished the regular season with two top-5 finishes and now has five career top-10 finishes in his two years at CU. His best finish this year was at the St. Edward’s Invite, where he finished in third.
Nielsen, a junior from Denmark, had three top-10 finishes this season, with a second place finish at the Dave Falconer Classic in March. He was last season’s LSC Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year.
In his first year at Cameron, Tovey had two top-20 finishes with a season best three round score of 216 at the UAFS Lion Classic.
The LSC Freshman of the Year, Hasse, had one top-10 finish, placing in sixth at the OBU Invite with a two round score of 145. He is just the second CU men’s golfer to receive the honor and joins fellow Aggie Caroline Christensen, as CU swept the Freshman of the Year awards at the banquet.
MSU’s Jared Baker was named this year’s Player of the Year on the men’s side, while Texas A&M-Commerce’s Wilfredo Sanchez took home the Newcomer of the Year honor. MSU’s Jeff Ray was named the Coach of the Year for the men.
The Aggies will compete at the Lone Star Conference Championship on Monday and Tuesday, April 23-24 at the Frisco Lakes Golf Course. The men’s tournament will consist of 36-holes played on Monday and then the final 18-holes will be played on Tuesday.
