SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Cameron men’s golf team opened up the spring season on Monday as they are currently in ninth at the St. Mary’s Rattler Invitational through one round of play.
First Round Results
The Aggies opened up the tournament with a first round score of 310, which has them 12 strokes back of the leader, Texas A&M-Commerce, who shot a 298. The teams started the second round but it was suspended in the late stages due to lightening and will resume on Tuesday morning.
Cameron was led by Will Lovelace, who shot a 73 through the first 18-holes. Lovelace is currently tied for fourth after carding four birdies in his first round of 2018. Both Daniel Nielsen and Devin Tovey are currently tied for 43rd with a first round 78, while Dario Gabriel and Niels Sorensen both shot an 81.
The Lions lead the field by three strokes as Oklahoma Christian is in second with a 301, Henderson State is in third with a 302, and St. Mary’s is in fourth with a 303. Rounding out the top-5 is St. Edwards and Lubbock Christian, while Western New Mexico is in seventh and Northeastern State is in eighth.
Additionally, fellow Lone Star Conference schools, West Texas A&M and Midwestern State are in 12th and 16th respectively.
Individually, the Lions’ Lucas McCubbin and STMU’s Emilio Gonzales are tied for first with 71s through 18 holes of play.
The Aggies and the rest of the field will finish the remainder of the second round to start Tuesday morning and then will conclude the invite with the third and final round later in the day. Live stats can be found here.
