Final Oracle/ITA Regional Rankings Released

LAWTON, Okla. – The final Oracle/ITA Division II Men’s Tennis Regional Rankings were released a week ago and the Aggie women and men finished the season ranked No. 3 and No. 5 respectively in the South Central Region.

Oracle/ITA Regional Rankings

The Aggie women recorded a 16-8 record in 2018, finishing 4-2 in the Lone Star Conference. After losing to Midwestern State 5-4 in the finals of the conference tournament, CU had to face MSU in the first round of the South Central Regional, falling 5-3. Their finish had them ranked No. 19 in the country in the final ITA national rankings.

Zhenia Shviadok finished the season ranked as the fourth best singles player in the region, while Mathilde Thibaudat finished as the No. 7 ranked player. The third and final CU player ranked in the region was Sarah Frendo, who tied for 14th in the South Central. Additionally, Shviadok and Thibaudat finished 2018 ranked as the third best doubles pairing between the LSC, Heartland, and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Nationally, Shviadok finished the spring at No. 24 and Thibaudat ranked No. 54, while both came in at No. 12 in doubles.

Cameron’s men finished the spring at 9-11, while going 2-1 in league play. They lost 5-4 in the LSC Championship final to Midwestern State and just missed making the Regional Tournament. CU was also ranked No. 50 by the ITA in the national rankings.

Individually, Przemyslaw Zielinski finished the season as the fifth best player in the region, while Vinicius Santos was ranked No. 10 and Julen Gutierrez came in at No. 20. CU’s top duo of Zielinski and Mateo Velasco ranked No. 4 in the South Central Doubles Rankings. Zielinski was also ranked the No. 29 ranked singles player in the nation and No. 18 in doubles with Velasco.
