UTPB’s Daeshon Francis led the Falcons with 21 points and 13 rebounds.
The perimeter was not in the Aggie’s favor in the first half as they made just 4 of 22 deep balls. Overall in the first half CU shot 28 percent to UTPB’s 48 percent helping the Falcons reach their largest lead of 14. UTPB also went 11 for 14 from the line.
The Aggies did end the half on a solid buzzer beating three by Tate assisted by Long as CU headed into the locker room trailing 38-27.
Out of the break CU scored seven unanswered points to inch within two possessions of the Falcons. UTPB then went on an 11-5 run to build their edge back up to double digits.
At the 11:42 marker, Tate drained another of CU’s eventual seven treys of the half to bring the Ags back to a two possession deficit. However, the Falcons had an answer for each of CU’s possessions and once again built their lead back to double figures.
With under two minutes to go Jones and Jordan Lewis drained two treys, but UTPB spread the ball well to expire time and come away with the win.
The contest closes out the Aggies home season, and they have three regular season games remaining starting with a trip to Western New Mexico on Thursday.
