LAWTON– With less than two weeks remaining until the Cameron volleyball team opens its season at the Texas Woman’s Invite, the Aggies are hitting the gym early in preparation for their upcoming matches.

CU fans will see an abundance of new faces on the court this season after second year head coach Qi Wang signed 13 freshmen and one junior college transfer who will join returners Kat Evans, Kendra Adams and Cristina Viera.
For Evans, the new season brings mixed emotions and a sense of leadership responsibility going into her last season with the Black and Gold.
“I just can’t believe it’s my last year to play volleyball ever,” Evans said. “I’m really excited with this new group of girls.
“The biggest challenge has been building the communication between the coach and players. It gets better every day but there’s sometimes they do not understand, but I tell them not to worry, just play volleyball, and it will catch on.”
According to freshman Jenny Tackett, her first day as a college athlete was more difficult than she thought it would be, but she said the experience was worth it.
“The first day here, I was intimidated by the older players and just tried to keep up with them and do well,” Tackett said. “I really wanted to make a good first impression on the team, so we can have a strong bond for the season. I look forward to close matches with the team where it’s intense and we have to fight for the win.”
The Lone Star Conference placed Cameron at sixth for the 2015 LSC preseason poll. The league’s preseason poll reflects the opinions of LSC head coaches and sports information directors, plus various media representatives from throughout the region and mirrors the Aggies’ finish in league play last year.
Last season, the Black and Gold finished 15-15 overall and 5-11 in conference play and made a trip to the LSC tournament, the Ags’ first since 2011.
Evans said her biggest goal is to return to the conference tournament this season and make it further than last year.
“Last season we went to the second round in the conference tournament. This year I want to win it all and keep going past that.”
