Baseball set to visit SNU and host NWOSU

LAWTON, Okla. – The Aggie baseball team faces a pair of mid-week opponents as they visit Southern Nazarene on Tuesday, Feb. 20 and then host Northwestern Oklahoma State for a doubleheader on Wednesday, Feb. 21.

Cameron has started off the season 7-3, as they are coming off of a 2-1 series loss to Northwest Missouri State. After falling in the first two games of the series, the Ags won game three 3-2 behind a stellar performance on the mound from Reid Garrett, who went seven innings and gave up just five hits while striking out six; Sean Mahercame in and pitched a perfect two innings with four Ks for the save.

The Aggies are hitting .258 as a team with 55 runs scored and four homers. Trey Bigford leads the team with a .364 average, while tying with Micah Kaaukai for a team leading 12 hits and nine runs scored. Colton Adams leads CU with 10 RBI and two homers while Cole Williams is batting .314 with seven RBI.

On the mound, the Black and Gold has a team ERA of 3.62 in 82 innings of work and 77 total strikeouts. Garrett leads CU with three wins in 20 innings off work with 21 strikeouts, while Andrew Garza has a 2.37 ERA in 19 innings of work with 19 punchouts. Maher has been clutch out of the bullpen, striking out 16 in just 10.1 innings of work.

Cameron will travel to Bethany, Okla. to face SNU in a single game beginning at 2 p.m. The Crimson Storm are 4-6 on the season and are coming off of a three game series loss to Henderson State. They are batting .293 as a team with 60 runs scored. Cooper Austin leads the team with 17 hits, nine RBI, and a .436 batting average. SNU’s pitching staff has a team ERA of 5.36 in 77.2 innings pitched with 75 combined strikeouts. Ryan Mills has pitched 14.2 innings with a 1.84 ERA and 11 strikeouts, while Austin has 14 strikeouts in 12.1 innings of work and a 1.46 ERA.

The Aggies then host the Rangers for a doubleheader beginning at noon on Sunday. NWOSU is 7-4 heading into the matchup with Cameron as they are coming off of a 2-1 series win over Harding in which they closed out the series with a 25-11 win.  They are batting .294 on the season with 81 runs scored and nine homers.  Jorin Van Amstel leads the team with a .442 average, 19 hits, and 14 runs scored. Johnuelle Ponce is tied for the team lead with two homers while topping the Rangers roster with 14 RBI. On the mound, Northwestern has a team ERA of 5.56 in 92.1 innings of work and 84 total strikeouts. Walker Wharton has posted a 0.77 ERA in 23.1 innings with 17 Ks, while Sean Rydell has 15 strikeouts in 9.2 innings pitched.

Following this week’s games against the Storm and Rangers, Cameron will visit Oklahoma Baptist for a single game on Tuesday, Feb. 27 starting at 2 p.m.
