LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University softball team was selected as the sixth seed in the NCAA Division II South Central Region on Monday morning during the selection show, and will play West Texas A&M in the opening round on Thursday, May 10, at 3:30 p.m.
CU head coach Dennis Furr has led the Black and Gold to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year, while the Aggies’ 2018 trip will be the fourth time in the past five seasons that CU has been selected to the regional.
The Aggies and the No. 10 Lady Buffs, who were ranked as the three seed in the region, will be the opening game of the regional in San Angelo, Texas. The other two participants in the tournament, the two seed and host Angelo State and the seven seed Colorado Christian, will play at 6 p.m. on Thursday. The regional is a double-elimination tournament that last three days, ending with the championship game on Saturday, May 12.
Cameron is a part of one side of the South Central Region, while (1) Colorado Mesa, (8) Rogers State, (4) Texas A&M-Commerce, and (5) Tarleton State make up the other side of the regional bracket that will take place in Grand Junction, Colo.
The winners of both regional tournaments will battle it out in a best of three game series at the Super Regional May 17-18.
