Angie Torres won flight-two in singles with a 1-6, 7-6 (10-6) over Southeastern Oklahoma and a 6-2, 6-2 win over Tarleton State on Friday. She followed that performance with a come-from-behind win 3-6, 6-2 (10-7) against Midwestern State to reach her flight finals on Saturday afternoon. Torres would then face an individual from Central Oklahoma, and she would pick up her fourth win of the weekend 6-4, 7-6.
Magdalena Kovinic also reached the finals in flight-nine on Saturday afternoon after picking up three singles victories to face the over top finisher from Central Oklahoma. Kovinic would give CU their second flight win by a 7-6, 6-4 score.
Paula Gutierrez and Mathilde Thibaudat also won three matches in their flights to reach the finals, but Gutierrez would fall in the flight-one final 2-6, 6-3(11-9) and Thibaudat dropped her match to St. Edward’s in flight-eight, 6-1, 6-2.
CU freshman Zhenia Shviadok in flight-seven won twice on Friday but fell to Tarleton State 6-4, 6-3 in her first Saturday match. Senior transfer Alina Gorina also came up with two wins on Friday as well but would drop her third match on Saturday to Midwestern State, 0-6, 6-4(10-8).
Gutierrez and Torres highlighted CU’s doubles pairing with a finals appearance in flight-two. The pair would beat groupings from St. Edward’s and Southeastern Oklahoma to face Tarleton State in the finals. However, the Texanns duo would win and take the flight to a score of 8-2.
Kovinic and Shviadok won twice on Friday before falling 8-1 to Midwestern State on Saturday, and the paring of Gorina and Thibaudat would win flight five with three match wins.
The Cameron women will continue individual play with the ITA Regionals on Sept. 25-27 in San Antonio, Texas.
