CANYON, Texas – The Cameron women’s basketball team was no match for No. 2 West Texas A&M who remains undefeated after defeating the Aggies 70-49 on Saturday afternoon.
CU struggled early against the Buffs as WT started the game with a 14-4 run to break away early and hold that lead for the entirety of the game. The Aggies trailed by as much as 27 points in their lowest scoring game since Nov. 11 when they fell 58-49 to Colorado Mesa.
The Aggies did manage to beat the Buffs beyond the arc, draining 11 three-pointers to their two; however, WT made up for it with a 41 percent effort from the field and 24-for-38 outing at the line. Cameron shot just 23 percent on the floor and went 6-for-15 at the stripe.
Jamie Bonnarens led Cameron with 16 points and seven rebounds. Lejha Smith tied her with seven boards while Amaka Nwakamma led the team with eight rebounds.
WT’s Lexy Hightower had a game high 18 points, Deleyah Harris nabbed a double-double on 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Tiana Parker totaled four blocks.
Cameron is now 5-9 overall and 3-3 in the Lone Star Conference while WT is 14-0 and 6-0 in the league.
