LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron Aggie softball program and head coach Dennis Furr added yet another strong Oklahoma arm in Seminole State College’s NJCAA All-Region pitcher Turner Whorton to the 2019 CU softball team.
Whorton helped guide SSC to a 50-7 record in 2018, posting a 21-1 record with a 2.82 ERA and 119 strikeouts in 116.2 innings in the circle. The sophomore appeared in 26 games, while starting 18 and going the distance in 10 of those. In Whorton’s freshman season, she went 15-6 with a 2.24 ERA and 154 Ks in 122 innings pitched.
The Trojans have had a lot of success while Whorton has been on the roster, finished fourth in the NJCAA rankings this season and making it to the National Championship Tournament as a No. 1 seed this season. The sophomore was also named 2nd Team All-Region for her work in the circle during 2018. In 2017, SSC went 47-15 and were ranked sixth in the nation.
Whorton joins an Aggie staff that set a program best with 12 combined shutouts, while posting a 2.74 ERA and 243 total strikeouts. The one-two punch of Rylee Willmon and Bethany Hines were both named ALL-LSC pitchers while leading the Aggies to a 32-20 record and a finish in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Final. CU also added Yukon, Okla. product and All-State left handed pitcher Brelee Webb earlier this month.
