The City of Lawton, in collaboration with Spohn Ranch, will host a Skate Park Design Workshop to gather citizen input on a hopeful Lawton Enhancement Trust Authority (LETA) project to be constructed at Elmer Thomas Park. The workshop will be held from 5-7 p.m. on March 14 in the City Hall Banquet Room.
According to LETA Executive Director Richard Rogalski, LETA has worked for several years to get the Elmer Thomas Park Skate Park project underway. Recently, the group acquired enough funding to cover the design cost. Before moving forth, however, LETA and designers would like to hear from the skateboard community in Lawton.
“I think the most important part of any public project is community input,” Rogalski said. “Design professionals provide the training and experience to make the project functional, but it is the community that gives the project shape and character; it is our input that makes the project our own.”
Following the community meeting, the design is expected to be ready for review in approximately three months. LETA will make relevant updates to the public as progress continues.
